Biomass and Biofuels

Biomass and Biofuels

Biomass and biofuels are renewable energy resources derived from organic materials such as crops, agricultural residues, forestry waste, algae, and organic by-products. Biofuels include bioethanol, biodiesel, biogas, and advanced biofuels, which can replace or supplement fossil fuels in transportation, power generation, and industry. Biomass can be converted into energy through biochemical, thermochemical, or biological processes. Sustainable biomass utilization reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports circular economy principles. Challenges include feedstock availability, land use, and lifecycle sustainability. Advanced biofuels focus on non-food feedstocks to improve environmental performance. Biomass and biofuels contribute to energy diversification, rural development, and low-carbon energy transitions.
