Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)

Carbon capture and storage involves capturing carbon dioxide emissions from power plants and industrial facilities and storing them in geological formations. CCS prevents CO2 from entering the atmosphere, helping mitigate climate change. Capture technologies include post-combustion, pre-combustion, and oxy-fuel processes. Stored CO2 is injected into deep saline aquifers or depleted oil and gas reservoirs. CCS is particularly important for hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as cement, steel, and fossil-based power generation. When combined with low-carbon energy, CCS supports net-zero emission strategies and climate goals.
