Coal Energy Systems

Coal Energy Systems

Coal energy systems involve the extraction, processing, and combustion of coal to generate electricity and heat. Coal has historically been a dominant energy source due to its abundance and high energy density. However, coal energy systems are major contributors to carbon emissions, air pollution, and environmental degradation. Modern coal technologies focus on improving efficiency through advanced combustion, supercritical boilers, and emissions control systems. Carbon capture and storage is being explored to mitigate climate impacts. Despite declining use in many regions, coal energy systems remain significant in certain economies. Transition strategies emphasize cleaner technologies, phased reduction, and replacement with low-carbon energy sources while maintaining energy security.
