Energy and Transportation

Energy and Transportation

Energy and transportation are closely interconnected, as the transport sector is one of the largest consumers of energy worldwide. Traditional transportation systems rely heavily on petroleum-based fuels, contributing significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Transitioning to sustainable transportation requires electrification, adoption of alternative fuels such as hydrogen and biofuels, and improvements in energy efficiency. Electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles, and public transport systems powered by renewable energy are central to this transition. Smart mobility solutions, charging infrastructure, and integration with power grids enhance efficiency and reliability. Energy and transportation planning also considers behavioral changes, modal shifts, and logistics optimization. Decarbonizing transportation improves air quality, reduces oil dependence, and supports climate mitigation. The energy–transport nexus is therefore a key pillar of sustainable energy transitions and future mobility systems.
