Energy Communities

Energy Communities

Energy communities are local, citizen-driven initiatives where individuals, businesses, and institutions collectively produce, manage, and consume energy. These communities often rely on renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass, combined with energy storage and smart management systems. Energy communities empower consumers to become “prosumers,” increasing local energy autonomy and social acceptance of renewable technologies. They contribute to decentralization, grid flexibility, and reduced transmission losses. Beyond technical benefits, energy communities promote social inclusion, local economic development, and public engagement in the energy transition. Regulatory frameworks and digital platforms play a crucial role in enabling fair participation and market access. Energy communities are increasingly recognized as key drivers of sustainable, resilient, and people-centered energy systems aligned with climate and sustainability goals.
