Exergy Analysis

Exergy Analysis

Exergy analysis is a thermodynamic method used to evaluate the quality and usefulness of energy in a system. Unlike energy analysis, which considers only the quantity of energy, exergy analysis accounts for irreversibilities and losses due to entropy generation. It identifies where and how energy degradation occurs in processes such as power generation, heat transfer, combustion, and refrigeration. By quantifying exergy destruction, engineers can pinpoint inefficiencies and improve system design. Exergy analysis is widely applied in renewable energy systems, thermal power plants, energy storage, and industrial processes. It supports sustainability assessment by linking thermodynamic performance with environmental impact. As energy systems become more complex, exergy analysis provides valuable insights for optimizing efficiency, reducing emissions, and advancing low-carbon and resource-efficient energy technologies.
