Fossil energy is derived from coal, oil, and natural gas formed over millions of years from organic matter. It has historically powered industrial growth and global energy systems. Fossil energy provides high energy density and reliable supply but is associated with greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts. Efforts to improve efficiency, reduce emissions, and integrate carbon capture technologies aim to mitigate its environmental footprint. While renewable energy adoption grows, fossil energy remains a significant part of the global energy mix. Transition strategies focus on reducing dependence while maintaining energy security.
