Hydrogen Generation and Storage

Hydrogen Generation and Storage

Hydrogen generation and storage are critical components of hydrogen-based energy systems. Hydrogen can be generated through water electrolysis, steam reforming, biomass conversion, and emerging biological or photoelectrochemical processes. Green hydrogen production using renewable electricity offers near-zero emissions. Storage methods include compressed gas, liquid hydrogen, metal hydrides, and chemical carriers. Efficient storage is essential for large-scale deployment in transportation, power generation, and industry. Challenges include cost, safety, and infrastructure development. Advances in materials and system design are improving performance and scalability. Hydrogen generation and storage enable long-term energy storage, sector coupling, and deep decarbonization.
