Sodium Ion Batteries

Sodium Ion Batteries

Sodium ion batteries are an emerging alternative to lithium-ion batteries that use sodium as the charge carrier. Sodium is abundant, low-cost, and widely available, making these batteries attractive for large-scale energy storage applications. Sodium ion batteries operate on similar principles to lithium-ion systems but offer advantages in resource sustainability and cost reduction. While their energy density is generally lower, they are well-suited for stationary storage and grid applications. Advances in electrode materials and electrolytes are improving performance and cycle life. Sodium ion batteries support renewable energy integration and grid stability, particularly in regions with limited lithium resources, and play an important role in diversifying energy storage technologies.
