Solar Fuels and Thermosolar Power

Solar Fuels and Thermosolar Power

Solar fuels and thermosolar power technologies convert solar energy into chemical or thermal energy for long-term storage and electricity generation. Solar fuels involve using sunlight to produce hydrogen or carbon-based fuels through water splitting or carbon dioxide reduction. These fuels enable energy storage and decarbonization of transport and industry. Thermosolar power, also known as concentrated solar power, uses mirrors or lenses to concentrate sunlight and generate high-temperature heat for electricity production. Thermal energy storage allows power generation even when sunlight is unavailable. Both approaches support large-scale renewable integration and provide dispatchable energy. Solar fuels and thermosolar power are key technologies for overcoming intermittency challenges and advancing sustainable, low-carbon energy systems.
